IT asset disposition (ITAD)

IT asset disposition (ITAD) is the business built around disposing of obsolete or unwanted equipment in a safe and ecologically-responsible manner.

ITAD vendors are specialized in streamlining IT asset disposal while minimizing costs and maximizing loss recovery. Businesses have a heavy IT equipment replacement cycle. Enterprises with worn out old equipment are regularly confronted with decisions about refurbishing or reselling, recycling or disposing of business equipment.

ITAD exists in response to a number of considerations in replacing business equipment:

  • Data security means storage devices must be wiped securely.
  • Proper disposal of environmentally sensitive materials must be done properly or companies may face fines.
  • Charitable donations and donation of equipment are more socially responsible than paying unnecessary disposal environmental fees.
  • Information on how to dispose of environmentally sensitive components is not common knowledge.

Businesses are faced with recovering losses and offsetting the cost of buying new equipment through judicious recycling or resale. This process can be daunting and extreme if a ITAD provider is not utilized.
